Is it possible that our society has not gotten worse since the 60's, or even really changed at all?

I agree that because everything is caught on video now and we have 24-hour news that it makes society appear worse than it was 40 years ago. And maybe it is worse in some respects, but it is certainly better in others. We are much closer to equality now than we were in the '60s. Science and technology have certainly advanced greatly since that time. In regards to aspects where we are worse, perhaps it is because we have not learned to be responsible with our new found technologies and freedoms. It is a learning process.
