Me and my 11 year old kid want to go see "I am Legend". Is the movie appropriate for an 11 year old?

We like action adventure (Mission Impossible-type) movies but not scary - monster (Resident Evil-type) movies. Can anyone tell us if the movie is too scary or gory for an 11 year old?
