Should I help my friend, or should I not, and if so, tell me how?

I have a friend, he acts like an idiot sometimes, and people take advantage of that, I tell him to seriously change, yet he thinks he's very popular, yet its quite saddening to see him think he's popular, but everyone is laughing behind his back. Do you think I should him keep thinking that or expose what people are saying behind his back?
