Lip pierce infection?

i got my lip piercing and i'm a bit worried about getting an infection ..i think my bar is to short and on the out side it created recess around the ball ..i was using some liquids that are recommended but i stopped after 2 weeks cause my piercer said so ..now should i change my bar or what? cause i heard that if u got it infected , that you mustn't remove ur pierce !!?
