Could restriction enzymes be a step towards a cure for cancer?

I'm learning about restriction enzymes, probes, splicing, DNA, etc. in school. From what I know, it seems as if you could damp out cancerous cells or stop them all together by going straight for the DNA itself. With all the medical advances that we've made, some one has to have looked into this, right?
